Amherst College Men's Tennis Completes Weekend Double by Topping Kenyon

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- The No. 7 Amherst College men's tennis team improved to 6-1 with an 8-1 victory over Kenyon College on Sunday morning at Swarthmore College's Faulkner Courts.
The Mammoths won both of their neutral-site matches at Swarthmore this weekend, and will next prepare to begin New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play next Saturday at Bates.
Amherst got things going with a sweep through doubles. Their first point came from Sean Wei '21 and Jayson Fung '20 who won 8-4 at the top flight. Following another 8-4 victory at No. 3 from Kevin '21 Ma and Cameron Raglin '19, Ethan Hillis '21 and Zach Bessette '19 edged Austin Diehl and Jacob Zalenski 8-6 at the second flight.
 
Bessette secured Amherst's fourth match point at the start of singles. He won 6-2, 6-3 against Michael Liu. That was followed up by Kevin Ma's straight-sets win at the third spot. That match versus Nicholas Paolucci brought identical 6-3 scores.
 
Kenyon did manage to win one singles match, and it came from Diehl. He moved his spring record to 13-0 after winning in three sets against Hillis. In the first, Diehl won 6-3. After a 6-3 defeat in the second, Diehl won 6-2 in the third.
 
Wei held off Zalenski 7-5, 6-4 in the top flight, while Fung defeated Bryan Yoshino 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 and Jesse Levitin '19 was a straight set winner at sixth singles.
 
Next on the schedule for Kenyon is a home date with rival Denison University on Wednesday, April 4 at 4:30 p.m.
