Worcester, Massachusetts – Lauren Mackey (Dublin, N.H.) finished with two goals and an assist while teammate Olivia Barksdale
(Fort Washington, Md.) added a goal and an assist as Clark University
won its second straight non-conference contest with a 4-1 win over Elms
College in field hockey action on Thursday evening.
The Cougars inched closer to .500 with the win (4-5), while the Blazers fall to 1-8.
Clark got on the board twice in less than a minute in the first half beginning in the 23rd minute. First
Megan Tighe (Simsbury, Conn.) took a pass from Barksdale and rattled the back of the cage at 22:50 for her second goal of the season.
The Scarlet and White were right back at it when Mackey found
Barksdale for her team-leading 11th marker of the season 47 seconds
later.
After intermission, Elms wasted little time tightening the gap as Marissa Mizzone (Orange, Conn.) registered her first collegiate goal at 36:43.
With the score 2-1, Mackey took over in the final 20 minutes, first pushing home a rebound in the 51st minute.
Later, Alyssa Williams (New Sharon, Maine) connected with Mackey for her ninth goal of the year at 57:24 to wrap up the scoring.
Clark controlled the contest, outshooting the Blazers 26-1 and held a 22-0 edge in penalty corners.
Jillian Lapponese (Enfield, Conn.) was strong in the cage for Elms, turning aside 12 shots, while Dani Michaud (Providence, R.I.) didn't need to make a save to pick up the win for the Cougars.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday. The Blazers play host to
Regis, while Clark welcomes Mount Holyoke for a 1:00 p.m. start.
