BIDDEFORD, Maine — The University of New England scored twice in each
half, receiving goals from four different plays to hand Gordon field
hockey a 4-0 loss. The Fighting Scots drop to 2-7 this season and 1-3 in
the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
Nicole Matarozzo (Wolfeboro,
N.H.) slapped home a feed from Desirae LeBlanc (Manchester,
N.H.) in
the 11th minute to get things started for UNE, and Becky Zakorchemny
(Gilford, N.H.) punched in a rebound for her first marker of the season
2:30 later (13th minute) to quickly double the margin.
UNE went
up 3-0 less than one minute into the 2nd half, as Hannah Buckley
(Leominster, Mass.) sent a dangerous ball into the middle from the left
wing and Vonde Saunders (Conway, N.H.) chased it down for a slight
redirection between the goalie's pads.
Kersey Boulay (Liberty,
Maine) capped the scoring output in the 54th minute, pushing a penalty
stroke into the left side of the cage.
Karli-An Gilbert
(Scarborough, Maine) put up two of Gordon's four shots on goal, but
could not come away with the Scots first score during a five-game losing
streak. Shannon Hicks (Scarborough, Maine) made 10 saves for the
Fighting Scots despite the loss.
Gordon's tough slate continues with a Homecoming matchup against Endicott on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
